A stunning, reclaimed, original late Georgian or early Victorian cast iron hob grate fire insert. The fire has a very ornate design, of the period, with beautiful decorative features, scrolling details and acanthus leaves at the top of the fire and within the fire opening.
The curved inner sides of the fire opening have panels with delicate scrolling detail. The legs are heavily decorated with have acanthus leaves and a central medallion. The fire has the traditional warming plates on either side of the grill. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. The hob grate is of an ideal size for a living or dining room or could be used for decorative purposes in a bedroom.
The fire is in good reclaimed condition with some signs of its considerable age and some repaired damage. The hob grate has some casting marks, light pitting, scratches and wear. The hob grate has sustained some damage to the right hand leg (when looking at the fire) that has been repaired to a high standard.
Bolts and a fixing plate can be seen on the back of the leg but it is less visible from the front, although the repair line crack can be seen (Picture 6). The top flap has been glued down but we can reinstate it, if the fire is to be used, for an extra charge.Please talk to us for further details. The second part of the top plate has a crack. The concrete fire back has some small knocks and chips. The back has surface rust, as expected.
