A very attractive and elegant, larger sized, late Victorian cast iron fire surround. The fire has a beautiful design with swags and bows, typical of the era. There is a heavy border around the fire opening and an attractive, shaped, cross bar.

The iron has been blacked and polished and has a lovely finish. Both fixing lugs are present. The surround is of a perfect size for a living or dining room and can be paired with a fire basket or wood burner. The fire is in good condition but is antique and therefore has some wear and damage. There is some damage to the right hand side (when facing the fire), under the mantel, as some of the metal has broken away.

We can provide a timber baton as a repair for free if wished as we think we can copy the profile of the metal and fix it in place. We would then spray the timber black with a heat resistant paint and then use fire polish to match the metal. The damaged area is over 50cm from the opening of the fire and regulations state 30cm is the minimum distance wood can be from the fire source so the repair using wood is considered safe. Please request a quote if you want this done. There are some casting marks and some slight marks and knocks.

The back has surface rust as expected. A fantastic item that has a very pretty design, suitable for both period and modern properties. A classic item that would be a lovely feature within a home.

If you wish to arrange your own courier for collection, we would bubble wrap the item free of. There are a few points we would like to make you aware of in terms of risk. There is a small amount of risk with transporting any item. This risk can be minimised by either collecting in person or using a trusted person or company to move the item for you. We have been using the same trusted family firm of couriers for many years now and are happy with their services, additionally you are covered for loss or damage. We would not be liable for loss or damage in transit. For cast iron items, no amount of bubble wrap will protect them from smashing if they were allowed to fall over. I would urge you not to book a parcel carrier, although cheaper. I would choose a door to door courier who does not use depots to transfer items. Please see our other listings for unusual items.
