Antique Cast Iron Victorian Fire Surround / Fireplace Arched / Uk Dated 1850

For sale is this gorgeously detailed antique Victorian cast iron fire surround, reclaimed from a country property in Lancashire and brought back to its full glory. It is a lovely piece of history from the mid Victorian period, carrying an authentic foundry mark dating it to 1850. This would look beautiful over an open fireplace, existing fire or opening. It has been carefully and professionally stripped, then given a protective heatproof coating and polish to bring out its original Victorian period character. The arched surround is made of solid cast iron in excellent, undamaged condition. It has aged beautifully with lots of texture in the patina. During restoration we retained the original bars and added mantle, which is perfectly proportioned and carries a rare ribboned edge.

Its style is typical of the mid 19th century with its decorative ironwork around the arch and rich detailing across the frieze and corbels, which are made in the style of flowing acanthus leaves. It has discreet mounting lugs for simple and safe installation. 62cm wide at legs, widening to 66.5cm. Rear projection of arch (into the chimney breast) 2cm, making this a good choice to go over an existing fireplace opening.

It would fit against a flat wall if you scrape out a little plaster where the inner arch meets the wall.
