For sale is this exquisite, large, fully restored antique cast iron fire surround from the late Victorian / early Edwardian period. It is a gorgeous statement piece. Fully functioning and well preserved, it is a striking yet simple surround. It is tastefully proportioned and will make a wonderful focal point in a period property. With no rear projection, it is perfect to go over an existing chimney breast opening or against a flat wall.
A classic and rare antique, this surround has been professionally stripped, cleaned, protective coated and polished to bring out its original character. Made of solid, heavyweight cast iron, the whole thing is in excellent condition for its age with a beautiful patina. As with most period fireplaces of this type, the simplicity of design and quality of the ironwork is what makes it so attractive.
This particular example features gorgeous repeating turrets across the mantle and over the frieze, layered panels around the opening and delicate scrolls aside an attractive frieze, typical of the period. During restoration we retained the original mantle shelf. It has been fully polished and coated for protection. The finished article really will add class and quality to your property. There are discreet mounting lugs just under the shelf for simple and safe installation. 132cm high (bottom to top of mantle). 128.5cm wide at mantle. 108cm wide at body, widening to 117cm at lugs. Rear projection of the whole thing is 0cm, making it a great choice for fitting either against a flat wall, over an insert or over an existing opening.
