A attractive original Victorian cast iron combination fire. The fire is finely cast and has a very ornate design with large fern detailing in each corner of the cross bar. The fire has an arched opening with a very decorative border featuring repeating leaves.Above the arch there is a decorative corbel. The fire retains its pretty top plate and curved front bars. The fire has two fixing lugs, one on each side under the mantel, and two lugs at the back of the mantel designed to be sunk in to the wall. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a lovely finish. The fire is in good reclaimed condition but does have some repaired damage and signs of age, as expected of antique items.
The fire has had a repaired break to the right hand top corner. The repair is of a good quality but there is a visible crack under the mantel that extends towards the crossbar. The back has a metal plate that strengthens the break and the fire is solid and stable. There are some scratches, casting marks and slight pitting to the iron.
The back of the mantel has some small casting holes. The concrete fire back has cracks but it is stable. The back has surface rust as expected.
Please see pictures for condition details. The fire has an elegant period appearance and is of a good size for a living or dining room or perhaps a larger bedroom. The fire is a fantastic example of Victorian craftsmanship and will add great character to a fireplace.Mantel depth 16.1cm (plus lugs 1.5cm).
