Exquisite, for sale is this. Carrying authentic foundry marks, it was cast in 1881 by the famous Biclam foundry of Manchester. It is a wonderful example of British architectural heritage which would typically have taken pride of place in a downstairs room or bedroom.
Neatly proportioned, it is made of solid cast iron in lovely condition. The ironwork is rich with detail across the frieze and around the body depicting delicate neoclassical swags, superb roundels over the canopy and daisy-filled urns on the body.Fits nicely over an existing fireplace opening. During restoration we retained its original stone, bars and grate. The final result look is superb.
Due to its age and the restorative work undertaken we would recommend this piece for use as a decorative fireplace and not for burning solid fuel, although it is fully functional. It has discreet mounting lugs on the top of the body for simple and safe installation with a couple of strong screws. 92cm high (bottom to top of mantle).
69.5cm wide at mantle. 12.5cm deep at mantle. 61cm wide at the body, widening to 66cm at lugs.
Inner void 32.5cm wide. In order to fit into your chimney breast the hole in your wall needs to be at least 40cm wide, 69cm high and 18cm deep.
