For sale is this exquisite, very large and fully restored antique cast iron fire surround from the late Victorian / early Edwardian period. Fully functioning and beautifully preserved, it is a wonderful piece of architectural heritage. It was reclaimed from a large country property and is perfect to go over an existing chimney breast opening.

An incredibly well preserved period piece, this fire surround has been professionally stripped, cleaned, protective coated and polished to bring out its original character. Made of solid, very heavyweight cast iron, it is in excellent condition for its age with a rich patina. As with most period fireplaces of this type, the richness and intricacy of design and quality of the ironwork is what makes it so attractive. This particular example features a beautiful splayed centre motif emanating into the original mantle shelf, gorgeous pattern work across the frieze and body and a stunning set of original Victorian tiles over the opening that we added during restoration.

It is a beautiful architectural piece for a family home. It has been fully polished and coated for protection. The finished article looks outstanding and really will add a touch of class and quality to a room. As with all of our restorations, it will bear the odd very well concealed mark from the restoration work, but this is extremely well done and simply adds to the character of the item in our view. This surround has mounting lugs beneath the shelf for discreet and simple installation.

It comes with a set of solid, freestanding cast iron bars and ash cover, which sit flush in the opening. 124cm high (bottom to top of mantle). 20cm depth at mantle, widening to 23cm. 107cm wide at body, widening to 117cm at lugs. Inner aperture 40.5cm wide.

To accommodate this surround the opening in your chimney breast should be at least 45cm wide x 76cm high. If you are local to us, your item can be collected in person from our home workshop in Wilmslow, Cheshire (SK9 postcode). We will assist you where possible in loading. If you are installing a heating appliance in your home, it is your responsibility to ensure that you or your builder follows building regulations and, where applicable, complies with HETAS and GAS SAFE regulations in the UK.
