Vintage Cast Iron & Timber Garden Bench with Lion Heads RestoredAuthentic Victorian. Guaranteed authentic, this bench has been professionallyrestored to its former glory. The cast-iron work is all original but the timber slats arenew treated redwood, and of a greater girth than original, for longevity. Theyare all stained in medium oak 3 times, and 3 times coated with Danish Tree Oil, paying particular attention to end grain. The wrought iron support strapsunderneath have been replaced for same spec new ones and painted black, as theold ones had deteriorated beyond salvaging.
In keeping with the period the 38fixing screws are all slotted, (no pozidriv hear) but made of stainless steelfor longevity too, and painted black also. It is the finishing touch to any garden or conservatory, notjust period properties. Unlike garden centre benches this bench will keep itsvalue and appeal, with the cast iron having seen 25 + prime ministers, 4monarch and 2 world wars, (and one world cup :). Its curved seat adopts to thehuman form very comfortably, much better than a flat seat. So why not grabyourself a piece of history that as been conscientiously restored by an expert, and for the right price. Ive not seen other antique benches restored to such a highspec anywhere. They either have large unsightly irregular gaps between theslats, have vital support components missing, are reproductions or arecarelessly assembled. I have restored many such benches in my years and canguarantee them for 5 years, (pending normal family use and covering in thedepths of winter). This could quite possibly be the last garden bench you need to find. There are several designs around, one with small lion head cameo's, or a floral design, both facing outwards lengthways, or there's the Flur De Lis(which is a bit more floral).
And there's this, the more desirable colonialdesign with the comparatively large forward facing lion heads, which are harderto source, and more asked after. I used Danish Tree Oil instead of varnish as it is moretactile and lower maintenance, it doesn't require the bench be dismantled orany need for the former applications to be stripped off prior to recoating. Youcan simply hose the bench down, allow to dry, brush the tree oil on in sit, allow to dry again (up to 3 hours), coat once more and that is it, ready to usefor another couple of years.
It brushes on really easily, taking just 5 - 10minutes to do the top and underneath, no skill required at all, just a brush. The bench seats up to 3 people at 52" long, 33"high and 25 front to back. It can fit in most estate cars or any smallvan. This item is in the category "Antiques\Architectural Antiques\Garden". The seller is "diggerswetsock" and is located in this country: GB.
