Vintage Antique Garden Bench Cast Iron & Wooden Fleur deLis Bench. Authentic Early 1900's Fleur de Lis Cast Iron And Timber GardenBench. This late Victorian or Edwardian garden bench is the finishing touch to any garden. Estimated manufacturing around the turn of the century 1800's / 1900's. The Fleur de Lis design is long associated with French Royalty and English Heraldry. Fleur-de-lis, (French: "lily flower"), also spelled fleur-de-lys, also called flower-de-luce, stylized emblem much used in ornamentation and long associated with the French crown. One legend identifies it as the lily given to Clovis, king of the Franks (466-511) at his baptism. And the lily was said to have sprung from the tears shed by Eve as she left Eden. From antiquity it has been the symbol of purity and was readily adoptedby the church to associate the sanctity of Mary with events of special significance. Thus, when Pope Leo III in 800 crowned Charlemagne as emperor, he is reported to have presented him with a blue banner covered (semé) with golden fleurs-de-lis. Every care was taken restoring this bench with longevity in mind. The tanalised (preservative treatment) timber slats are Norwegian Redwood, known for its strength and workability, are thick in girth, have been thrice stained in'Jacobean Oak'and thrice brush coated in a smooth tactile satin-finish Danish tree oil, which is easiers than varnish to maintain. The wrought iron triangulating support struts are original but the original centre brace showed signs of rust and had to be replaced with a new one, and like the iron ends are all painted in Hammerite exterior black satin finish paint. The timber slat fixing screws have been replaced with slotted screws in-keeping too with the originals, only in stainless steel, for weather resistance. With its curved seat that corresponds well to the human form, it is actually very comfortable.

Much more so than a flat seat. So grab yourself a piece of history, knowing the appeal and value of this bench will last and last. Im happy to explain the difference between authentic antique and repro iron bench ends, and what to watch out for, I'm personally not new to restoring period garden furniture so you can expect a high degree of care and experience (the two greatest resources) have gone into making this bench, making it ready to face the next 100+ years, hopefully without two world wars this time.

It must be worth asking whomever you choose to fetch it. But ultimately if you're not happy - Im not happy. Should you decide within 30 days that it needs an adjustment or you. Dimensions: 4 feet long (125cms). 26" front to back (670cm's), and 30" high (770 cm's).

Very strong and robust, seats up 2 -3people. I'm based in S.

But if you live locally I have the capacity to deliver one myself for a reasonable price, please ask. This item is in the category "Antiques\Architectural Antiques\Garden". The seller is "diggerswetsock" and is located in this country: GB. This item can be shipped to United Kingdom.
